For many golfers, the sport is more than just a hobby — it’s a passion. That was certainly the case for Emily, an avid golfer who dedicated her weekends to the course and was preparing for an important tournament. Unfortunately, her preparations hit a roadblock when she began experiencing sharp pain in her right elbow during her backswing.

Concerned that her injury might keep her out of the tournament, Emily came to Evergreen Spine & Sports Medicine seeking answers. After a thorough evaluation, our team diagnosed her with golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) — a common overuse injury that causes pain and inflammation in the tendons on the inner side of the elbow.

Our treatment plan combined several therapies designed to reduce pain, promote healing, and restore function. First, we used Active Release Technique (ART)™ to break up adhesions and improve mobility in her forearm and elbow. This hands-on technique targeted the tight muscles and scar tissue that were restricting her swing.

Next, we incorporated Shockwave Therapy to stimulate blood flow and accelerate tissue repair. This non-invasive treatment helped reduce inflammation and promote healing in her elbow. To address lingering muscle tension and improve neuromuscular control, we performed Dry Needling, which effectively relieved her pain and allowed her to move more freely.

To provide additional support and stability as she returned to practice, we applied Kinesio-taping to her elbow and forearm. This helped reduce strain during her golf swing while reinforcing proper movement patterns. Finally, we guided Emily through a series of Corrective Exercises designed to improve her shoulder mobility, strengthen her forearm muscles, and reinforce healthy swing mechanics to prevent future injuries.

Thanks to this comprehensive approach, Emily was able to return to the course stronger than ever. Not only did she compete in her tournament — she played her best round of the season, completely pain-free.
